The Yobe State House of Assembly is set to hold zonal public hearings on a bill for a law to mandate compulsory premarital haemoglobin genotype and viral hepatitis testing within the state.
This was contained in a statement issued and signed by the Chairman of the ad-hoc committee on the bill, Hon. Kachalla Ajiya Maina, and made available to newsmen in Damaturu.
According to the statement, the public hearing for the Yobe North senatorial zone will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2025, in Gashua at the Umar Suleiman College of Education, commencing at eleven o’clock in the morning.
On Monday, June 23, 2025, the committee will conduct the public hearing for the Yobe South Senatorial Zone in Potiskum, at the College of Administration and Management Technology, also at eleven o’clock in the morning.
The hearing for the Yobe East Senatorial Zone is scheduled for Wednesday, June 25, at the Shehu Sule College of Nursing Sciences, Damaturu, beginning at eleven o’clock in the morning.
The Speaker of the House, Chiroma Buba Mashio, will serve as the special guest of honour at the events.
Emirs, district and village heads, as well as religious leaders, local government chairmen, civil society organisations, and the general public are expected to attend and contribute meaningfully towards the success of the bill at all levels.
