Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa has sent a strong message to Nigerian political leaders over the ongoing killings in Benue State.
Musa, who condemned the killings, urged Nigerian political leaders to take real action to avoid further bloodshed in Benue.
According to the former Leicester City forward, the leaders need consistent action and not seasonal appearances.
Reacting to the development, Musa wrote on X: “Another wave of heartbreaking killings in Benue. How many more lives must be lost before real action is taken?
“We can’t keep condemning violence and then moving on. Don’t wait until it happens close to home or to someone you know — speak out now.
“To our leaders: governance is not just for election season. We need consistent action, not seasonal appearances.
“We demand more. We deserve better.
Benue deserves peace. Nigeria deserves better.
“Sincere condolences to those who lost their lives in the process and to their families, may Allah grant you the fortitude to bear the loss.”
On Friday and early hours of Saturday, over 200 people were killed in an attack in Yelwata, Guma Local Government Area of Benue.
The deadly attack claimed the lives of mostly internally displaced persons, IDPs, who were seeking refuge at a local Catholic mission.
On Sunday, Catholic Pontiff, Pope Leo prayed for the victims of what he labelled as a “terrible massacre” in Benue State, Nigeria.
On Monday, Benue Governor Hyacinth Alia claimed that the armed herders who attacked Yelwata came through a river in the area.
Alia also claimed that the armed herders first attacked military and police checkpoints when they invaded Yelwata.
