Cyprus leader, President Nikos Christodoulides, has disclosed that Iran has requested that they (Cyprus) convey a message to Israel.
Christodoulides said his country was willing to carry out the assignment amid an escalating conflict between Iran and Israel.
Iran and Israel’s missile strikes were visible to the naked eye across Cyprus overnight.
Speaking to journalists, the President said he will call the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu on telephone later on Sunday.
“The telephone communications will continue. Let me remind you that we were asked by Iran to convey some messages to Israel, so, today, I will speak with [Netanyahu],” he said.
He said the meeting between him and Netanyahu was supposed to hold last night but was put on hold due to the counter attacks by the two nations.
The Cyprus President went on to say that he is also going to speak with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen later in the day.
President of the United States of America, Donald Trump on Sunday said that his country was ready to begin peace talks between Israel and Iran to bring the bloody conflict to an end.
The US leader however, warned Iran against any attack on America or its citizens, adding that such a move could lead to a devastating effects.
Iran and Israel started attacking each other late last week after months of growing tension between the two nations.
