Suspected Fulani herdsmen in the early hours of Sunday reportedly launched a fresh attack on Mbaivur community, located in Mbahimin near the Air Force Base in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
DAILY POST gathered that the assailants invaded Tse Hyiongo, a settlement within the Mbaivur area, on Saturday till early Sunday morning, causing widespread panic among residents.
The attack is said to have lasted for hours without any visible intervention from security forces stationed in the area.
Eyewitnesses disclosed that frightened residents fled their homes as gunshots rang out across the village.
As of the time of filing this report, the number of casualties remains unclear.
The attack on Mbaivur comes barely 24 hours after a similar invasion in Yelewata, Guma Local Government Area of the state, where over 200 people were reportedly killed in one of the deadliest massacres in recent times.
As of Sunday morning, efforts to get official statements from the Benue State Police Command and the Nigerian Air Force authorities in Makurdi were unsuccessful.
