The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU, Northwest University Kano branch, has expressed shock and condemned the brutal killing of one of its members, Buhari Imam.
A statement signed by the branch chairman, Comrade Bashir Muhammad Bala, described the act as shocking and deeply distressing.
In the early hours of Wednesday, 11th June 2025, Imam, a staff member of Northwest University Kano (Yusuf Maitama Sule University), was murdered during a phone-snatching incident.
The attack took place around 3:30 a.m. in Sheka Sabuwar Abuja, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.
NASU stated that the late Imam was a dedicated member of the university’s Maintenance Team and played a vital role in the institution’s recent 7th Congregation.
He was also a final-year Higher National Diploma (HND) student at Kano State Polytechnic, studying Electrical Engineering.
Bala called for urgent intervention from the Kano State Government and security agencies.
He added, “Buhari Imam was viciously attacked with a knife at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, in Sheka Sabuwar Abuja, Kumbotso Local Government Area, Kano State.”
The statement explained that he sustained severe stomach injuries and was rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), where he tragically succumbed to his injuries on Friday, June 13, 2025.
The union demanded a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Imam’s death and urged authorities to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those responsible.
NASU also called on the government and university management to support the deceased’s family, saying that Imam left behind an elderly mother and four siblings.
The murder has plunged the university community into mourning, sparking grief and concern among colleagues, students, and friends of the late staff member.
