Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has charged newly sworn-in National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the state to leave lasting legacies in their host communities during their service year.
The governor, speaking through his deputy, Ikechukwu Emetu, gave the charge on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony for the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream II Corps members at the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Umunna, Bende LGA.
Governor Otti, who pledged his administration’s commitment to strengthening the NYSC scheme and enhancing its capacity to instil patriotic values in young graduates, urged the Corps members to draw inspiration from predecessors who made noteworthy contributions to their host communities.
He further emphasised the need for the NYSC members to foster love, harmony, and productive integration across the state and nation, promising rewards for those who positively impact the lives of Abia people.
In her address, the NYSC Abia State Coordinator, Mrs Gladys Adama, lauded the governor’s strides in upgrading and rehabilitating the scheme’s physical structures, including the orientation camp, internal road network and other facilities.
She also thanked the governor for providing a safe, enabling environment for Corps members to thrive but in the same vein noted that Abia State Secretariat of the NYSC is presently dilapidated.
Mrs Adama urged the NYSC members to exhibit a high sense of responsibility towards nation-building and prepare for the challenges of the service year.
The Corps members were sworn in by the Chief Judge of Abia State, Justice Lilian Abai, who was represented by Justice C. E. Anyim.
