Russia vs Nigeria: He made smart move – Odemwingie singles out one Super Eagles player

Former Super Eagles attacker, Peter Odemwingie has singled out striker, Tolu Arokodare for praise following his performances during Nigeria’s international friendly 1-1 draw with Russia on Friday.

Odemwingie said the Genk star made a smart move which resulted to a goal for Nigeria against Russia.

Arokodare had intercepted a misplaced pass from Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov.

Speaking to Championat, Odemwingie said: “[Matvey] Safonov made a mistake. But Arokodare also made a very smart move.

“In English, this is called a double run: Arokodare went to press as if to the right, and when Safonov lowered his eyes, he changed direction and ran to the left and intercepted the pass to the defender.

“Now many teams include high pressing, and it brought success to the Nigerian team.”

The goal was Arokodare’s first for the Super Eagles.

The 23-year-old striker will hope to continue his impressive display for Eric Chelle’s side when the World Cup qualifiers resumes later this year.
