Niger Gov Bago begs residents to relocate from waterways without delay

In an effort to forestall flood disaster, Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago has appealed to those residing at the river banks and farmers to be cautious of their activities at the river side.

He stated that there have been warning signs from weather experts of imminent floods this year, hence the need to relocate to safer grounds without further delay.

Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, who made this appeal through his Deputy, Yakubu Garba, who made the call after performing the two raka’ats prayer for Eid El Kabir, at the Minna Central Eid prayer ground, said this is with a view to prevent a repeat of recent flood disaster that occurred in Mokwa Local Government Area of the state.

” This advice has became necessary because there is the possibility that another flood disaster might occur due to heavy downpour. This is because prevention is always better than cure,” he warned.

Bago noted that though pilgrims for 2025 Haji to Mecca from the state are saying prayers for the state and Nigeria,” We should also reciprocate the gesture by praying for them to have a successful hajj which is the wish and desire of any pilgrim”.

Also, former Niger State Governor, Dr Muazu Babangida Aliyu urged the Muslim faithful to be thankful to Allah for making it possible to sacrifice rams instead of sacrificing their first child in person of Prophet Ismail.

According to him, “This is no doubt a great honour which must be honored through positive acts”.

He also called on people to come together as one, pray hard and forgive one another and as well show love and care to the less privileged in society.

Earlier, in his sermon the Chief Imam of the Minna Central Mosque, Sheikh Jibril Isa Imam, called on wealthy individuals to always assist the less privileged persons in the society as commanded by Allah.

The Eid-el-Kabir celebrations have been peaceful and orderly throughout Niger State.
