How I’m maintaining steeze and my dream life as a Lagos 9-5er

7 a.m, alarm rings. I’d rise like a champion, eat well, dress sharp, slide into the morning traffic with my playlist on blast, and hit the office by 8:30 a.m, just early enough to look responsible, but still fashionably late enough to stroll in right before the C-Suite executives.

Once I got to the office, I’d open my laptop and gradually ease into my day. My warm-up routine was: 30 minutes to 1 hour of WhatsApp, Twitter, small gist, argument about the week’s Champions League Fixtures and some time to sign happy birthday wishes for office celebrants. Then, I’d work in calculated bursts. Two hours on, 1 hour off. A gentleman’s work-life rhythm.

At lunch time, I’d visit an island hot spot for my lunch break, and work in short bursts again till closing time. When 5 p.m. hits, my real life starts!

And of course, there was always one babe or the other. Always one hot restaurant or lounge to discover together, always some place to flex with them🌚. If I wasn’t flexing one of my IG baddies, I was out clubbing with my Gs or practically living by the beach. Even my car then was a clean 2012 Tokunbo Ford Explorer with optimal fuel consumption that said “I’ve arrived.” I had the lifestyle, the path, the plan.

I’d float through the system, get raises by doing just the right amount of work. Plan was, I’ll switch jobs every few years till I hit manager status and assign all my tasks to the capable people I hire😁. Don’t get me wrong, I had/have the skills, but I wanted to LIVE! And for a while, I did. Until five years ago.

Five years ago wasn’t even bad. I was still cruising, but starting to budget small small. Maybe a babe every two weeks instead of every week. You know, adjustments, not suffering. But two years ago? Omo, my eye begin see better shege!

It started with house hunting. I wanted to upgrade my Island apartment and figured ₦1.5M would get me a nice two-bed around Ikate. Agents started calling ₦4–6M. I was like huh? I sha found a nice 2-bed in Alapere.

Next came furnishing. That’s when I really knew the world had changed. Curtains alone were double the price I paid last time. But I held it down, until fuel prices shot up, the kind of shirts I like started going for 70-100k, and my 2012 Ford started feeling like a luxury. Nobody told me twice before I entered Tejuoso market to find better “boscoro”

My salary stayed the same, but the cost of vibes tripled. Promotions became bloodsport as sharp eye colleagues started competing harder . Raises required Olympic-level performance. More hours, more stress, and when the money came, the lifestyle I used to afford had moved on without me😮‍💨.

These days, I go on IG to check restaurant menus before texting any babe. My biggest vacation decision used to be “Dubai or Santorini?”. Now, It’s IITA Ibadan, with steady budget monitoring.

My guy, I now price jollof rice and fish tail before ordering. Things cast😪.

I even picked up side gigs. Me. The big boy of 2020–2022. Back then, I had time and change. Now I’m working 2,3 jobs just to break even.

But my story eventually changed. How? I’m glad you asked.

Rediscovering My Lost Steeze

On a fateful Friday night early this year, after another long, stressful week, I was spiralling and couldn’t even blow off steam in the club. Tried to distract myself with FIFA, but that wasn’t working, so I went on Twitter and as luck would have it, one guy on my “for you” page had just dropped a betslip. Nothing to lose, so I just put ₦500 and forgot about it.

There’s relief, and then there’s what I felt when I checked the next day and saw that I’d boomed over 80 odds! I won’t even lie, I was low-key mad even though I was also overjoyed because I kept wishing I’d staked like ₦20k😂😂. But sha, I moved on.

I started playing small small, limiting my bets to amounts I can afford to lose like ₦500 and ₦1000. And the one my head cannot carry? I sharply scour the internet for expert betting tips, and so far, it has worked well for me.

When I win? SHUTDOWN

But when I don’t? The fact that I’m mostly betting with money I can afford to lose means that I’m still good, tbh. When you now realize that BetKing also hands out free bets every Monday for just showing up, BRING, please.

I now have a system. Small sums = risky bets. Bet higher sums = “safer bets” like daily two odds. If it hits? Big flex. If not? No wahala, BetKing comes through with free bets weekly, anyway, so I can try again. When I win big, I stack some for future me. The rest goes to the medium term soft life maintenance. At least now, I don’t need three gigs to feel like me.

Don’t get it twisted, I still dey hustle, and I still stretch my salary like rubber. But with BetKing, I finally found some balance, strange as it sounds: work hard, play smart. Several bets with a brand I consider to be the best betting site in Nigeria here and there, and I could finally live like old me again. And that’s my new soft life formula.

And if you still dey doubt, sharply find quick two odds for this weekend’s Champions League Final. Personally, I’ll be backing PSG, because I think they’re the better team and the added motivation to win and spite Mbappe will be top of mind. So, use your head, build your bet, and let BetKing do the rest.

Bottom line? This economy no dey reward average again o. You either outwork everybody, you outplay them, and if you are like me, you do both because why should you have to choose?

And if you’re reading this after a big win…remember chop life small, you deserve am. Sign up, place that bet today, you no know if na how we go jam for Santorini…
