The Nigerian Army has rescued a deputy commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and five others from suspected kidnappers in Taraba State.
According to the military, the operation was conducted in collaboration with other security agencies.
The counter-insurgency platform Zagazola Makama reported that the rescue followed a distress call at about 11:40 pm on April 27 from Abe Samuel, a youth leader, who said a Toyota Hilux was attacked along the Wukari–Kente road.
Troops dispatched to the scene found the abandoned vehicle—registration number FG 117-B03—with a punctured tyre, but the occupants were missing.
A joint search-and-rescue mission was immediately launched, and by 6:00 am on April 28, troops successfully rescued Musa Hudu, the NDLEA Zone 1 deputy commander (Ibadan), and five others from a nearby bush.
According to Makama, the victims were unharmed.
Preliminary findings revealed that they had fled into the bush after three armed men attacked their vehicle and opened fire using a dane gun.
The victims were later escorted to safety, and after their vehicle was repaired, they continued their journey.
