A violent clash between hoodlums and police officers in Kumbiya-Kumbiya Quarters, Gombe Local Government Area, has left one suspect dead and a police officer severely injured.

The incident, which occurred at about 10:10 p.m. on April 17, 2025, was revealed in a post by security analyst Zagazola Makama on his official X handle on Saturday.

According to Zagazola, the confrontation erupted when an anti-violence patrol team led by Inspector Isah Buba encountered a group of armed hoodlums at a known black spot in the area.

The gang, reportedly armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons, launched a sudden attack on the officers.

In the chaos, Special Constable Ahmed Muhammad, aged 28, was severely injured and rendered unconscious, initially feared dead.

As the situation escalated and more hoodlums joined the attack, Corporal Aliyu Nura fired a shot that fatally struck Umar Musa, 25, one of the attackers. Musa was rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, where he was confirmed dead. His body has since been deposited at the hospital’s morgue.

Constable Muhammad was quickly moved to Zainab Bulkachuwa Hospital for emergency treatment and is currently receiving care for internal injuries.

Security operatives recovered two cutlasses from the scene and noted that a round of 7.66mm ammunition had been discharged during the encounter.

Further investigations reportedly revealed that the hoodlums were mobilized by Haruna Kaura, a known figure believed to be coordinating illicit activities in the area.
