I did not assault any woman inside her farm – Abia LG Chairmen cries out

The Chairman of Ikwuano, local government, LGA of Abia State, Anthony Nwaubani has dismissed the trending video where he was accused of beating a woman, Mrs Oluchi Ugochukwu Nnanna and destroying her farm.

In the video, the woman was seen rolling on the ground while crying that the LGA Chairman and his security guards physically assaulted her and uprooted her cassava crops at Ariam Usaka.

The video led to some members of the opposition calling for the immediate resignation of Nwaubani from his position as executive Chairman of Ikwuano LGA.

But reacting to the news on Friday, the council Chairman said the video was stage-managed to mislead the public and to destroy his image, adding that a foreign-based medical doctor was behind the online publications.

In a statement released by the council, Nwaubani explained that the female farmer, Mrs Oluchi Ugochukwu Nnanna cultivated maize and cassava directly on a graded government road and also dumped weeded materials on the road, thereby obstructing free movement on the road.

According to the Ikwuano LGA Charman, he appealed to Mrs Nnanna and her husband to remove some of the crops cultivated on the road and use the main part of her farm to continue her works.

These appeals, he said, were rejected by the couple which made the council Chairman invite personal of Home Land security on April 13 to remove the weeds and the few crops that covered the road.

” At no point did the Mayor or security personnel physically assault her” the official statement said.
