Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have neutralised two suspected terrorists and recovered assorted arms during a clearance operation in Taraba State.
The operation, which took place on April 14, 2025, targeted bandits reportedly moving between Mayokan and Bondogri villages in Bali Local Government Area. Acting on credible intelligence, the troops swiftly advanced to the area and engaged the suspected criminals in a fierce gun battle around Garbatau, Garin Hamidu, Bandaguri, and Mayokan villages.
According to a statement by Captain Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, two terrorists were killed in the exchange, while several others fled with gunshot wounds.
Weapons recovered from the operation include one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a single-barrel dane gun, 27 arrows, and six cutlasses.
In a separate operation in Ibi Local Government Area on the same day, troops conducted a clearance patrol to suspected bandits’ hideouts around Yamiri Village in Sarkin Kudu Ward. The criminals reportedly abandoned their camp and fled upon sighting the advancing soldiers.
Further search of the area led to the recovery of a military woodland camouflage uniform and a Bible. The army proceeded to destroy all discovered camps to prevent the criminals from regrouping or using them as operational bases.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, commended the troops for their bravery and reaffirmed the Brigade’s resolve to sustain operations that will ensure peace and security across Taraba State.
He also urged residents to continue supporting the military by providing timely and credible information to assist in ongoing efforts to flush out criminal elements.
