The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has declared that the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) is “dead” and predicted that its presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, would soon return to the ruling party.
Ganduje made this statement on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the Tinubu Support Group to the APC national secretariat in Abuja.
He expressed confidence that Kwankwaso, a former Kano State governor and current NNPP leader, would rejoin the APC, noting that the party remains open to accepting returning members.
“We have been receiving prominent politicians and lawmakers from all over the country. We are ready to welcome anyone who wants to return to the party,” Ganduje said.
Commenting on the state of the NNPP, Ganduje said the party has lost its relevance and is on the verge of collapse.
“The NNPP is dead. And it will soon be buried very, very soon. I’m hoping that where we will put the dead body, the coffin has already been constructed. What remains now is to dig the grave. And already they are digging the grave very, very soon.”
He further suggested that Kwankwaso, despite his recent political setbacks, is considering a return to the APC.
“Even like that, the so-called NNPP national leader, he too, he says after losing everyone, he wants to come back to us, we will welcome him, because he’s coming back home,” he added.
Ganduje also dismissed the strength of the opposition, stating that any coalition being formed to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s government ahead of the 2027 general election would not last.
He predicted that such alliances would eventually crumble, with key figures finding their way back to the APC.
