Uromi killings: We won’t rest until justice prevails – DSP Barau

Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, on Wednesday visited Bunkure Local Government Area (LGA) of Kano State to commiserate with the families of the 16 hunters killed in Uromi, Esan North East LGA of Edo State.
During the visit, held at At-Taqwa Mosque in the Sabon Fegi area of Bunkure, Senator Barau met with the bereaved families, who hail from Bunkure, Kibiya, Rano, and Garko LGAs.

He was accompanied by the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, the Managing Director of the North West Development Commission (NWDC), Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji, and other dignitaries.

Speaking on behalf of the Deputy President of the Senate, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, reiterated Senator Barau’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victims.

He confirmed that, in addition to the 14 suspects already apprehended, security agencies had arrested two more individuals in connection with the killings.

As a gesture of support, Senator Barau announced a donation of N1 million to each of the 16 bereaved families, totaling N16 million. He also pledged to sponsor a motion on the matter when the Senate resumes later this month.

“I am here to express my deepest condolences over the tragic loss of our 16 brothers. May Allah grant them Jannatul Firdaus and grant a speedy recovery to those injured,” Senator Barau said.

“When the incident occurred, I immediately reached out to the state governor, security agencies, and other stakeholders. They took swift action, leading to the arrest of 16 suspects so far. The governor, who also visited me in Abuja, has assured me of the state government’s commitment to supporting the affected families. We will not rest until the perpetrators face the full weight of the law.”

Speaking on behalf of the families, the Chief Imam of the area, Sheikh Zainul Abidina Auwal, expressed gratitude to Senator Barau for his unwavering support and described him as the kind of leader Nigeria needs for national progress.
