A joint security task force has rescued Cynthia Akor, a Naval officer who was abducted in Abuja, from a settlement in Nasarawa State.
The operation, carried out between 2 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, involved the military, officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), hunters, and local vigilante groups.
Akor and two others were kidnapped at the Mamman Vatsa Estate gate along Mpape Road, Abuja, around 7:34 p.m. on Friday. The abductors had reportedly demanded ₦500 million for the naval officer and ₦200 million each for the two civilians.
Confirming the rescue, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations for the FCT Command, DCP Isyaku Sharu, stated, “Immediately upon receiving the distress call, an intense search-and-rescue operation was conducted across Mpape, Gidan Bawa, Anguwan Mu’azu, and Yelwa Hills, covering areas in both the FCT and Nasarawa State.”
Four suspects were arrested during the operation, and ₦3.5 million, suspected to be ransom from previous kidnappings, was recovered.
Sharu added that the victims are in stable condition and receiving medical attention at the Nigerian Army Clinic in Abuja.
Security has been reinforced in Mpape and surrounding areas to prevent further incidents.
