Mararraba residents in Zamfara State executed a notorious bandit informant, Awwalu Dan Garin Mararraba, after his double life as a vigilante and accomplice to criminal gangs was exposed.
The incident, which took place last week in the community near Yankuzo under Tsafe Local Government Area, was revealed in a post by security analyst Zagazola Makama on Thursday via X.
According to Makama, Awwalu had long been suspected of secretly working with bandits while posing as a member of a local vigilante group.
He was accused of orchestrating multiple killings, including those of Rabi’u Bawa (Zafa) and another youth known as Mailahiya in Sabon Gari.
Despite these allegations, he continued moving freely between communities, sometimes as a vigilante and at other times in the company of armed bandits.
According to Makama, his luck ran out when he returned to his hometown, Mararraba, reportedly to retrieve a motorcycle.
“His presence, however, raised suspicion among residents, who promptly locked him inside a house along with his associate. As the news spread, a crowd gathered, and local Fulani leaders were called to witness the event,” he said.
Makama’s post further revealed that Awwalu initially tried to defend himself, claiming he was in the town for a business deal facilitated by his elder brother, the village head.
However, after a heated exchange, the village head denied inviting him.
A search of Awwalu’s phone reportedly uncovered incriminating evidence, including multiple contacts and call logs linking him to known bandit leaders.
“Armed locals, enraged by years of banditry and community betrayals, immediately opened fire on Awwalu, killing him on the spot.”
