Three police officers injured as landmine explodes on Maiduguri-Damaturu road

Three police officers sustained injuries following a landmine explosion along the Maiduguri-Damaturu Road, in an attack suspected to have been carried out by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists.

The incident, which occurred at about 3:00pm near Garin Kuturu Village, between Auno and Jakana towns, was revealed in a post by security analyst Zagazola Makama on his X handle on Wednesday.

According to intelligence sources cited by Makama, the explosion took place while a Rapid Response Squad (RRS) patrol team was conducting a routine operation in the area.

“The Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonated as the officers stepped on it, injuring three policemen, damaging their patrol vehicle, and leaving a crater measuring three feet deep and five feet wide,” the report stated.

Following the explosion, a Bomb Disposal (EOD-CBRN) Team was deployed to the scene to conduct a thorough sweep for secondary explosives.

However, no additional threats were found, and the area was later declared safe for road users.

The injured officers were immediately rushed to the Borno State Specialist Hospital, where they received treatment before being discharged.
