Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has installed the new paramount ruler of the Yungur speaking people, charging him to curtail conflicts between farmers and herders in his domain.
Giving the Staff of Office to the Gubu Yungur, Johnson Matalo in Dumne on Thursday, the governor also urged the new king to direct the youths of the chiefdom away from restiveness.
In his speech during the presentation of Staff of Office to the Gubo Yungur, Fintiri told the paramount ruler to priorities security, justice, fairness, equity, tolerance and solidarity within the chiefdom.
“I call on Gubo Matalo to ensure that reports of herder/farmer conflicts in the area are brought to the barest minimum and indeed provide a model of harmonious co-existence for others to emulate,” the governor said.
He further charged the new king to design measures of mobilising the talented youths in his domain away from drug abuse, indolence, crime and other vices.
In his acceptance speech, the Gubo Yungur assured Governor Fintiri that he would lead with justice and humility.
The Walin Adamawa, Alhaji Abdulkadir Mbamba who represented the Lamido Adamawa on the ocassion, wished the Gubo a successful reign.
Other speakers at the event commended the state government for granting the Yungur people their long-sought chiefdom.
DAILY POST reports that the coronation of the Gubo Yungo came as the second in seven scheduled coronation ceremonies for the seven chiefdoms and emirates that the state government created last year.
The Fufure Emirate was inaugurated on Thursday, February 5, now leaving five more such coronation ceremonies, the next being in Gombi, scheduled for Saturday, February 8.
