Residents of Lafia and some parts of Nasarawa State have been thrown into distress following the announcement by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, regarding a scheduled power outage affecting parts of Lafia and surrounding areas in Nasarawa State.
Speaking with DAILY POST’s correspondent, traders at the Lafia main market lamented the extent of damage this might cause.
Okay Nnachi, an Igbo trader who deals in frozen food, stated, “This is not good at all. How can my chicken or fish in the cold room survive this?” he questioned.
Daberechi Jude, who operates a grinding machine, could only count her losses: “No market today be that,” she said, lamenting that by the time the light is back, people may not be out to grind anything again for the day.
Others who spoke also complained about how they might have to wait the whole day, as buying fuel for generator use would only incur more loss and no gain for them.
Ndidi Mbah, TCN spokesperson, in a statement, said the electricity disruption is necessary to carry out maintenance work at the Lafia 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation.
The company explained that the planned maintenance involves reinstalling a repaired relay on the 33kV Feeder A2.
As a result, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to supply power to customers in Lafia Township, Obi, Keana, and Doma between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm on Wednesday.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announces that a scheduled maintenance exercise will be conducted at the Lafia 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation today, February 5, 2025.
“The purpose of the maintenance is to reinstall the repaired relay on the 33kV Feeder A2. The maintenance will take place from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, during which time Abuja DisCo will be unable to distribute electricity to its customers in Lafia Township, Obi, Keana, and Doma,” the statement read.
TCN urged residents and businesses in the affected areas to take necessary precautions and assured them that power would be restored as soon as maintenance work is completed.
