The Adamawa State Government has inaugurated a committee charged with handling inter-LGA land disputes and other boundary-related issues.
The state Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta who inaugurated the committee, Wednesday, directed it to document land matters in the respective councils.
Inaugurating the committee which draws members from all the security agencies, traditional rulers and community leaders, the deputy governor urged the members to ensure peaceful land dispute resolutions.
She added that apart from the interest in security in contemporary society, protection of boundaries against encroachment is necessary for the use of generations to come.
She said, “Our land needs to be protected so that we can continue to benefit from the gift of God. Whenever you have issues with land, we should report to authorities and not take the law into our land.”
She specified that land matters must be documented, “so that those who will come after us, will have reason to continue on a clean slate.”
She told the committee that its inauguration is a call to serve the state, hence the need to be committed to addressing lingering boundary disputes and fostering collaboration among border communities.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the state boundary commission, Mercy Dauda, said the event marks a milestone towards fostering harmony, collaboration and development across the state’s 21 LGAs.
