Insecurity: How deployment of drones eases our operational challenges – Police

The Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa, Mr Francis Alonyenu, has stated that the introduction of drones into the operations of the command has significantly eased many of the security challenges faced in the state.

Alonyenu made this known in an interview with NAN on Tuesday in Yenagoa.

According to him, the introduction of drones has helped the police overcome most security issues confronting the state.

The Commissioner of Police explained that with the use of drones, the activities of kidnappers, bank robbers, and attackers targeting national institutions have been eliminated in the state.

He said operatives of the command had successfully tackled “kidnapping, bank robberies, and attacks on national institutions that were a threat to public peace.”

The CP noted that he was motivated to introduce the drones based on his experience in the Northeast, where he had previously deployed them for operations against bandits.

“Immediately I was posted to the Bayelsa command, we were faced with challenges related to the lack of vehicular logistics. I ordered five drones and brought along my drone pilots.

“All I needed was a room, but when you look at the physical condition of the command headquarters, it is challenging. However, I always see obstacles as opportunities.

“I acquired two portacabins as an office, installed the necessary infrastructure, and initiated a live broadcast of our activities. As the drones operate, the cameras are also active.

“It was virtual policing we introduced. While the cameras provide a horizontal view, the drones give us a vertical perspective of activities across the state,” he said.
