Zelensky reacts as 277 Ukraine soldiers return from Russian captivity

Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed happiness after 277 Ukraine soldiers returned home from Russian captivity.

Zelensky, in a post on his X account on Saturday also thanked everyone, especially the United Arab Emirates, for their mediation that made the return of the troops possible.

“Our people are home—one of the best pieces of news that can be. Another 277 warriors have returned home from Russian captivity,” Zelensky posted on X, alongside a video of the Ukraine soldiers.

“The warriors of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard of Ukraine, the State Special Transport Service, and the border guards. They defended Mariupol and other directions in the Donetsk, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and Luhansk regions.

“I thank everyone who made this return of our people possible. I am especially grateful to the United Arab Emirates for their mediation.

“In total, since the beginning of the full-scale war, 4,552 people—both warriors and civilians—have been successfully brought back home from Russian imprisonment.

“We remember all those who remain in captivity. We are searching for everyone who could be there. We must bring them all home.”

DAILY POST reports that this is coming as Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that his country will cease “all military operations” as part of an “Easter truce” in Ukraine.

The neighbouring nations have been fighting for over three years and a lot of casualties have been recorded on both sides.

US President Donald Trump and European leaders are keen to strike a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia in a bid to end the war that have claimed thousands of lives.
