Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has responded to former Italy manager Fabio Capello’s comment that he “did a lot of harm to football.”
Capello had criticized the Man City boss in an interview with the Spanish newspaper El Mundo.
He said, “I respected Guardiola as a coach. Guardiola always wanted to be the protagonist. His Barcelona team ruined football.”
Capello added, “Do you know why I dislike Guardiola? It’s his arrogance… His arrogance cost him multiple Champions League titles.
“Everyone spent 10 years trying to emulate Pep. That ruined Italian football. Many people followed Pep’s style, and football became boring. He is too arrogant and has a strong sense of self-importance.”
Guardiola addressed the press ahead of this weekend’s Premier League matches, where he responded to the criticism.
The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss said, “I listen to everything that people say about me.
“So be careful! It’s not the first time that Mr. Fabio Capello has said that. I’m not good enough to win Italian football…”
