Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has said the new chiefdoms and emirates which the government created recently were meant to provide governance in parts of the state that are otherwise difficult to reach.
Fintiri who spoke on Wednesday during the coronation of the newly appointed Emir of Fufore, Alhaji Mohammed Ribadu, also said that Fufore and the other emirates and chiefdoms across the state are expected to be conflict resolution points enhancing security around the state.
Fufore and one other emirate, Maiha, as well as five chiefdoms, were created in December last year and emirs and chiefs appointed for them last month.
Speaking at the Atiku Abubakar Stadium in Fufore where the Emir of Fufore’s coronation was held, Fintiri said, “Starting from Fufore, we are embarking on a journey that would foster unity, bind our people together and create the right reach for governance in areas where it has been difficult to reach.
“We are creating more conflict resolution and arbitration points and taking justice closer to the people. We are reinforcing the legitimate sanctity of our traditional institutions.”
The corronation of the Emir of Fufore on Wednesday came as the first of seven such ceremonies to be held between now and the 19th of this month for the seven newly created chiefdoms and emirates across Adamawa State.
During the Emir of Fufore corronation, Governor Fintiri congratulated the new emir and urged Fufore people to support the emir to nurtur the emirate.
He said Ribadu’s appointment was based on merit and urged him to lead with wisdom and strengthen local security.
In his acceptance speech, the Emir of Fufore expressed readiness to serve his people with diligence.
The oath of office was administered on the new emir by the state Chief Judge, Justice Hapsat Abdurrahman, while other highlights of the corronation included a durbar by the 12 district heads of the Fufore Emirate.
